Beirut's Berlin Wall (Is Falling)

'It's strange for me to say it, but this process of change has started because of the American invasion of Iraq,' explains [Walid] Jumblatt, [a Druze Muslim and unofficial leader of the Lebanese intifada]. 'I was cynical about Iraq. But when I saw the Iraqi people voting three weeks ago, 8 million of them, it was the start of a new Arab world.' Jumblatt says this spark of democratic revolt is spreading. 'The Syrian people, the Egyptian people, all say that something is changing. The Berlin Wall has fallen. We can see it.'

Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine have all had free elections. Saudi Arabia has had limited elections as well. Libya has ended its WMD programs. Now the Lebanese and even the Egyptians and Syrians are starting to voice their desire for 'freedom'. God bless the American men and women in uniform who have sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq so all this could happen. And God bless President Bush for making the difficult decision to send them into harms way. Is this God's work? Maybe not, but maybe so.
